The Gardens

Coromandel Homestead was built many moons ago as a labour of love by a man for his wife, and their family. It is truly a gentle, calming, and joyous place to escape to. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

SEASONS: The Homestead’s park-like gardens were planted almost half a century ago. It is a special place that changes with the seasons. In SPRING it sings with an abundance of colourful blossoms and bird life. SUMMER brings fruit – and our crab-apple tree is in full flower. AUTUMN is golden as the leaves change and fall, and our persimmons glow orange. During WINTER some of the trees may be bare but there are still blooms to be found. It’s the perfect time to light the fireplaces and experience hygge.

WILDLIFE: Whilst out in the gardens you are likely to come across much birdlife, including our little community of Wood Ducks, King Parrots, Kookaburras, and resident Bowerbird. Keep your eyes out for the kangaroos who often visit at dawn and dusk. You’ll almost surely see the bunnies scampering about the lawns.

AMBIENCE: Our gardens are unique in that we have two fully fenced dams. Enjoy the sounds of the water fountain and watch the family of local ducks as they go on their daily constitutional. Please note: no swimming is permitted, and children must be supervised outside.

GAMES: There is plenty of outdoors space for the warmer days. We have a dam with a beautiful fountain. The property also has a beautiful sand tennis court (known as the Coromandel Tennis Club), which at the right time of year is surrounded by roses. It even has a double umpires chair. Truly the perfect spot for hits and giggles with friends, Pimms in hand. We provide the racquets and balls. There are also other outdoor games for our guests to use (croquet, anyone?).

FIRESIDE: Both the Lodge and the Cottage have their own separate fire pits with Adirondack chairs for you to enjoy in the cooler months (in fact, the Lodge has two to choose from – take your pick!).

“We enjoyed our stay in the quaint cottage, it had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. We particularly liked the indoor fire and the outdoor fire-pit with ample wood supplies. The easy walk into Berrima Village meant we didn’t need to get into the car all weekend. Thanks for a lovely stay.”
